On May 28 at roughly 3:50 p.m., a crash occurred outside of Nilssen’s at the intersection of Cedar and Highway 63. The impact of the second vehicle was strong enough to roll the first vehicle onto its roof where it came to rest on the southbound lane on Highway 63.
“It’s not the first time we’ve had problems with this intersection,” said responding Officer Daniel Orr, “people coming down the highway see that green light assume they have the right away and sometimes they just don’t see the oncoming traffic.” The first vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Sienna, was traveling South on Highway 63 and was passing through the intersection on Cedar Street when the second vehicle, a 2013 Ford Fusion SE attempted a left hand turn from the turn lane, failing to yield to the right of way, and struck the oncoming car.
Baldwin EMS, Fire and Police were all on scene to assist those impacted. Though significant damage was done to the rolled vehicle, no serious injuries have been reported. Day & Nite Towing arrived on scene to help turn the vehicle back on its tires and tow it off the scene so professional personnel could clear the scene. No other injuries have been reported as of this time.
