John Stadt, age 89 of Baldwin died peacefully Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Baldwin Care Center. John was born on September 9, 1929 in Hardenberg, Netherlands; the son of Cornelius and Annie (Keizer) Stadt. He was raised in the Netherlands where he received his education. He farmed in the Netherlands before making Canada his new home in 1948. He enlisted in the armed forces and proudly served in the Royal Canadian Army Regiment. He would be married to the former Joanna Heneveld to which four children were born. This union would later dissolve. While living here, he worked in logging and the sawmill industry. His life would change when he began volunteering for a crisis hotline. It opened his eyes to the good God gave him and became humble and grateful for his blessings. He lived in Canada for 47 years before moving to Baldwin, Wisconsin in 1995. He would be married to the former Wilma (TeGrootenhuis) VanSomeren. John was a devoted Christian whose faith was first and foremost. John was a member of the Christian Reformed Church faith and helped found the CLAC (Christian Labor Association of Canada). He also enjoyed singing and had fond memories teaching his children how to fish trout and salmon.
John is survived by his children Christopher Stadt of Vancouver, Christine Stadt of Vancouver, Annette Stadt of Vancouver, James Stadt of Vancouver; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; step children Barbara (Bob) Meyer, Beverly (Rob) Engesether, Steve (Tammy) VanSomeren, and their families. His parents, two siblings, and his wife Wilma Stadt precede him in death.
A memorial service for John Stadt was held at 4pm, Friday, May 24th at the Christian Reformed Church of Baldwin. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at church on Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the discretion of the family. Funeral services entrusted the O’Connell Family Funeral Home and Countryside Crematory of Baldwin.
