Dan Keefer was nearing the end of his collegiate years at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with the goal of coming back home to Wisconsin. 

On his way to a teaching degree in biology, the dilemma for him at the time was there were only three high schools which had biology positions open: Baldwin-Woodville, Beaver Dam and New Lisbon.
